Do I have to attend the classroom session?

Neither EPA Reference Method 9 nor Levelton require observers to attend a lecture session. However, experience shows two things about those who attend the lecture.

First, the observers who attend lecture generally certify much easier than those who do not because they learn how to take the test as well as learning observation technique.

Secondly, the observer understands how to properly read smoke in the field. They know how to properly fill in the documentation. These are the items that usually cause the loss of court cases.  Levelton recommends first time students attend the lecture and that re-certification students attend every few years to refresh their knowledge.
