Neil A. Cumming, FACI, PEng

Award of Merit - 2010

Canadian Standards Association

In recognition of outstanding leadership and teamwork, and knowledge and expertise in the development and application of concrete standards.

Neil Cumming, Executive Vice President, has been a member of CSA Committee A23.1 since 1995 and of CSA Committee A3000 since 2004. He has brought an invaluable perspective on harmonizing the two standards to reinforce the essential connection between the manufactured product (cement) and the use of cement to produce the end product (concrete).

As Committee Chair of A23.1/23.2 from 2004 to 2009, Mr. Cumming showed dedicated leadership, working closely with all his subcommittee chairs to identify and resolve contentious issues early on. He also served as an associate member of the Strategic Steering Committee on Concrete and Related Products from 2004 - 2009. He is currently Vice-Chair of A23.1 for the next edition, due in 2014.

Mr. Cumming has over 30 years of experience in construction materials engineering, as well as in testing, inspection and evaluation of engineering materials. His experience involves all aspects of concrete, paving mixtures, soils aggregates, rock products and timber. A true engineer, he knows CSA standards from the committee meeting room all the way into the field. He understands design, test and field requirements - and their limitations. These talents are rare, and make him a huge asset at the committee table and at training seminars and presentations to practitioners throughout the world.
