BEEP Training

One of the primary purposes of this workshop is to provide the necessary preparation for the Building Envelope Education Program (BEEP) written examination. This Web-based workshop is equivalent to the BEEP Workshop Module 1 offered by the AIBC from time to time in a face-to-face environment successfully since 1999. Completion of this workshop will earn architects 18 core learning units under the AIBC's Continuing Education System (CES) and similar eligibility for credit under other professional jurisdiction systems. This Web-based workshop also provides:

  • a review of the building science related to the environmental forces that act on building envelopes
  • a resource for anyone interested in learning about the management of environmental loads on building envelopes
The workshop focusses on:
  • the physical processes associated with the flow of heat, air, and moisture through the building envelope
  • practical exercises in quantifying, calculating, and predicting the impact of environmental loads on the building envelope
It is designed for professionals and others connected with:
  • design and/or construction of building envelopes
  • development of regulations and standards that apply to building envelopes
  • planning and developing building projects

You don't need any significant knowledge of physics to take part in this workshop and, while an aptitude for dealing with numbers and equations would be helpful, it is not fundamental, as detailed examples of all calculations are provided at appropriate places in the workshop.

Although there is a general progression in the workshop from basic theory to practical applications, you may pay less attention to some topics and focus on others that are more relevant to your own professional background and interests.

While the workshop has been developed in response to concern about building envelope performance in Canada's west coast environment, you can apply the information, skills, and strategies described in this workshop to the successful management of the movement of moisture through building envelopes in a wide range of environmental conditions.
